Diet does NOT mean deprive!
I firmly believe that many "diets" fail simply because they deprive you of the foods you really enjoy. Why deprive yourself of those french fries or that burrito if you really want one? There's nothing wrong with treating yourself to fried foods and rich desserts as long as you take accountability for the rest of what you put into your body during the day. Success in diet is all about planning. If you know you're going to have a glass of wine with dinner, you can compensate by having a lighter lunch or forgoing the mid-day snack. Better yet, go ahead and have it all...just go to the gym and work for it first! Put in a 30 minute, high intensity workout and you can reward yourself with that cookie or that piece of warm bread with butter slathered atop. Mmmmm....

Gastrobypass is cheating!
I have lost nearly 50 pounds since January of 2009 and expect to lose another 40 before the end of 2010. How'd I do this, you ask? I changed my life style! I stopped over eating and started to get off of my lazy butt and doing some exercising. I find it amazing how many people (even within my own family) would rather mutilate their bodies rather than train themselves to eat less and exercise more. America does not have an epidemic of obesity...we have an epidemic of laziness and poor choices. I say we do away with gastrobypass and make these people take responsibility for their actions and lack of control. They are cheating themselves if take this "easy route", as they have learned nothing. Old habits will return, as will the fat!

Homelessness....a choice?
I read a book recently called, "The Glass Castle" (by Jeannette Walls). It is made up of the memoirs of the author who was raised dirt poor by an alcoholic father and an irresponsible mother. In the end, she became a very successful writer and her parents ended up homeless on the streets of New York City. As much as she tried to help her parents get off of the street, they insisted they were happy and living the lives they wanted to live. Free of responsibility. Her father seemed to be very intelligent and her mother was a certified school teacher, yet they both chose not to work. Instead, they chose to live off of the charity of society. I find this to be a very selfish act. Call me callus and cold, but I think that if someone chooses to be homeless then they should take ownership of their decision and not depend on the charity of others! Make them eat out of the trash cans of restaurants and huddle up under the freeways to sleep. They chose that life! Perhaps churches and other such charities should perform interviews of the homeless that come to take advantage of their offerings to find out who is in real need and who is just choosing not to take care of themselves.

Diet & Exercise
Hi there. I see a Diet category under Health & Safety, but think that it should be Diet & Exercise so that we can post our ideas and thoughts about exercise alone. Either that, or create another subcategory called Exercise. Thanks! :)

You're famous. Bucker up!
I get sick and tired of hearing about the poor celebrities who complain when people want to take their picture or ask for their autograph. Those things are part of their job! It's the price they pay for being known to the world. If they can't handle it, then they should have thought of that before they went for the fame and fortune!
